Prakash Kutir: Prakash Means Light And Kutir Means Bungalow (House Of Light) Accredited by the Ministry of Tourism, Government of Delhi we have been successfully welcoming guests to our B&B abode from all over the world for the past several years. You will find your hosts Ajay and Savita as the perfect travel guides to Delhi whose ancestors have been residing in the city since 1890. So feel free to ask any query regarding Delhi – its ins and outs, the must do’s and the must haves, the where’s and the how’s. We love spending time with our guests, hearing from them about their views on India, learning about their culture and sharing ours. Our Journey From A Home To A Homestay One evening in the summer of 2008, your hosts Ajay and Savita, both retired from their business – that of manufacturing cotton laces and putting their kids through college – were enjoying a cup of tea in their lovely garden and they asked themselves, “Now what?” They found the answer to this question in the then-upcoming Commonwealth Games to be hosted by Delhi in 2010 and the government’s decision to make getting B&B licenses for homeowners easier, though in no way diluting the due diligence process that included ensuring quality of rooms and amenities and more importantly the presence of host family at the premises thus giving guests an actual interaction with an Indian family and the opportunity to enjoy the culture. This was backed by a rigorous follow up on any write-up or TV show on the concept of a bed and breakfast whether in travel magazines, newspapers, travel channels or websites. With an idea in their minds, they started with adding a couple of floors to their ancestral bungalow, self-designing the space and handpicking each and every piece of décor or furniture – some coming from villages afar. They incidentally got in touch with an Englishman Mr. Andrew Gardiner, who very kindly shared his valuable tips on “The Western Traveler and What They Seek from a Homestay in India”….The rest as they say is history! Prakash Kutir is recognised by Department of Tourism National Capital Territory of Delhi, Government of India as a Bed and Breakfast establishment.
